[ Things must have been pretty bad if he stopped wearing a shirt. Kiryu nods. That kind of lifestyle fits the Majima he remembers. Plus if he thinks about it now... the life they're living already doesn't make sense. It can't have made any more sense before. ]

[ He doesn't want to say he's sorry or anything, certainly Majima doesn't need pity. But he does reach over and lay his hand over Majima's. ]

[ "I was really unhappy," he wants to tell him. he wants to tell him about the deep sense of dread he felt lingering under the surface. the anger. the sadness. but it's one thing to tell kiryu about what happened, in a factual sense, and another thing to articulate his feelings. he's been bottling them up and swallowing them down for three years now. that's not going to change just because he's got a nice boyfriend. ]

Guess so. Just another dude to add to the pile of dudes we can't figure out who they are. He was older. Wore a tan suit.

Damn.

[ Kiryu writes down "older tan-suit guy" on the page where they've written down most of the people they've remembered (including hard-on-san.) He also takes a look at his hands... he really hopes he never lost a finger somehow. ]

Were you guys enemies, then?

I don't think so.

[ the word "enemies" doesn't feel right. "friends" doesn't either. ]

[ He called him an asshole, but maybe it was a term of endearment? ]

Co-workers, then? Were you in the same family?

I don't think that's it, either. The way I felt about him was complicated.

[ Kiryu nods, then writes down "complicated" under "guy with a tan suit." ]

I guess things don't make much sense here, either.

None of this shit makes sense, that's not new.

[ Kiryu nods. ]

I'd be okay with whatever you decide to wear.

[ So... if you decide to go snakeskin. It's cool. Kiryu loves you for you, Majima. ]

[ majima barks out a laugh at that. ]

I'm glad ya think so.

[ If Kiryu were not Kiryu he'd add a bit about how Majima would also look good wearing nothing but he is, alas, Kiryu. ]

I mean it. From what I can remember, you've still got it.

I wonder how much time passed.

[ Also like he never sleeps and doesn't eat enough, but maybe being in the yakuza can do that to a person. ]

[ That's gotta be it. He never seems to feel anything but affection towards Majima, after all. ]

It's like I've known you forever.

Me too. I'm glad it's the same for both of us.

[ Kiryu nods. He makes a couple notes about them maybe being older, but it's hard to know by how much...

He does write "dating?" though. It makes the most sense. ]

majima's quiet for a moment, and then: ]

People keep askin' me if I'm fuckin' angry.

Really? How come?

[ Which part... would he be angry about? ]

That I lost my eye. Like I should do somethin' about it.

Not much you can do.

[ He pauses. ]

It probably wasn't an accident.

[ Punishment. It was definitely punishment, considering the way the yakuza take responsibility. ]
