[ Ah, the unannounced Mafuyu visit. A very common staple in the Kiryu household. On any other day, Kiryu would happily let her in and offer her some instant noodles, maybe help her with her studying if he can somehow manage to convince her to do some homework.

Today isn't a usual day, though. Kaz and Majima are... on a date. They were just about to start watching a movie when Mafuyu starts slamming on the door. ]

Ah. I... That's Mafuyu.

[ He can't just turn her away, she helped!! But also the date... Kiryu turns to Majima, eyes pleading. He doesn't want to interrupt their date, but he's also way too nice to leave her out in the cold. (It's not even cold, Kiryu.) ]

She's going to find my spare key if we don't let her in.

Well, you're sure as fuck not gonna be able to stop her.

[ i mean, he knows mafuyu. might as well let her in -- for all that it puts on hold "movie watching" or actual movie watching, as the case may be with kiryu. ]

[ CONTINUES! POUNDING! ON! THE! DOOR! ]

Hey Kaz! Are you on the toilet!? Open the door!

Okay, I'll go get it.

[ He stands up off the couch, setting aside the bowl of popcorn they'd made and everything. Well, Kiryu had made it... he really likes this movie, sorry, Majima. ]

I'm here, one second! [ Kaz makes his way to the door and opens it. He's a little more well-dressed than he'd usually be at this time. Is he wearing cologne? ]

Hi Mafuyu. What's up?

[ majima gets up too, i guess, looking a little forlornly at the popcorn. ok, popcorn, you win. he walks over to stand behind kiryu and peer down at their new guest ]

There ain't any cherry soda here, ya know that, right?

[ This is where she would normally bypass Kaz and slip past him through the doorway, but this time, there's somebody else in the way and she runs right into Majima.

Give her several seconds to process, and then ]

Yeah Kaz, how come you don't buy cherry soda?

[ Kaz and Majima, sitting in a couch, D A T I N G. this is what it means, Mafuyu ]

Um. I guess I prefer lemon-lime.

[ The shock seems to have passed, hopefully... it's all cool. Mafuyu is just standing there though, he feels bad. ]

You remember Majima, right?

[ She was at the party OF COURSE SHE REMEMBERS, MAJIMA ]

[ majima's just going to....gently peel mafuyu off of him now that she's run into him. but he does step out of her way, if she wants into kiryu's apartment, go for it. ]

Yeah, the birthday boy. Why's he still here? That was ages ago.

[ Why is she still here, honestly. Stepping into the apartment, she slings her backpack off her shoulder onto one end of the couch, and plops down right in the middle of the seats.

Heck yeah, there's even popcorn ready. ]

What movie are we watching?

He went home... and came back. And went home again, and now he's here. I invited him over.

[ Oh no, Kaz thought he could maybe feed her and get rid of her, this is not what he intended.

But he also can't kick her out because he wants her to know his door is always open to her but maybe not always always? ]

I... Majima and I were going to watch Ikiru.

[ Not exactly the most romantic film... It's their first date though. Maybe Kiryu wanted to get some action too? ]

We're on a date.

[ kiryu its about a guy who is literally dying this is not a romantic film in the slightest, but okay, dude.

also what the heck kiryu told majima he'd talked to mafuyu about the dating thing -- and did she really only remember him as having a birthday?? what happened to their sweet order everything on the pizza outing?? hes a little offended

but not like a lot. mostly not. ]

You're going to be really fuckin' bored if ya stay and watch.

[ Look... the birthday was more recent than the pizza, and new things override the old. She enjoys, she forgets, and she moves on. ]

Ikiru sounds Japanese. Is it an anime?

[ The beginning of the movie is dark, she can't tell. But she's also pretty sure she won't get bored if there's food, so alright. This is her being considerate of their date: She picks up the bowl of popcorn, and scoots over to one end of the couch. There, that's plenty of room to hold hands or whatever. ]

Just sit down and let's start the movie.

[ Mafuyu, no.... this movie will put you to sleep. They could always watch Stray Dog instead... but maybe her falling asleep wouldn't be such a bad thing, hm... ]

No, it's not anime... It's a Kurosawa film.

[ Hand-holding isn't really what they had in mind... Kiryu shoots an apologetic look at Majima and steps in close to whisper, hopefully low enough that Mafuyu can't hear him. ]

If she falls asleep, I can move her to my room...?

[ majima just shrugs, pretty resigned to his fate here. it's...fine, he guesses. he's pretty sure they weren't gonna get any real action on the first date so like. whatever, she can join them.

he goes to sit on the couch next to her, grateful that she's at least vacated the middle of the couch so he and kiryu can sit together. it's the little things, i guess.

he grabs a handful of popcorn. ]

Kurosawa made all those dope samurai films.

[ this isn't a samurai film. ]

[ Yeah, it becomes clear pretty early into the movie that this isn't a samurai film. ]

Kaz... you need a new TV. This is in black and white...

[ Without funky anime hair colors, she can't even tell people apart, turning to ask "Who's that guy?" or "What's her name?" or "Which one's the samurai?" in between handfuls of popcorn because what even is going on, where is all the sword fighting?

Even during a movie, Mafuyu does not shut up, but she has to talk to keep herself awake, because falling asleep on them would be rude. ]

It's an old movie.

[ Definitely not a samurai movie, though. Try as he might to make this romantic, even cuddling on the couch would feel weird with Mafuyu there... watching... asking questions.

This movie is also about a guy rediscovering the joy in life and then immediately dying so it's actually quite touching and Kiryu has to try not to cry through the sadder parts. He's totally invested.

This has to be the worst first date ever, Majima, I'm so sorry. ]

They're all the samurai if you believe.

[ majima's kind of with mafuyu on this one. he respects that kiryu is into this but also...

i mean hes goro majima. ]

[ They get through the popcorn long before the movie ends and Mafuyu's left with just squinting at the screen, trying to make sense of everything. She opens her mouth to ask another question, but- yawns, tears in her eyes. You're not alone in crying, Kaz, Mafuyu too is crying. Out of boredom. ]

So that's the end, huh. He didn't even do that samurai death thing. Hirikiri?

[ Harakiri, but also... no... ]

[ Kiryu does not deign that with a response........... ]

Yeah, that's the end.

[ Maybe he really should have shown them Stray Dog first. Except it wasn't supposed to be a "them" at first, it's not his fault this was poorly planned, right?? ]

So, uh, Mafuyu... it's getting pretty late, do your parents know you're here?

[ majima just kind of cringes. knowing japanese now sure is weird. ]

I can drive ya home if you want.

[ but then back to kiryu ]

It was pretty good. Sad, though.

[ It's probably gotten to the point where her parents just assume she's over at Kaz's place and don't come looking for her unless she's not in bed the next morning, so... no they do not know. ]

Yeah, I told them I'm staying overnight!

[ Kiryu's face falls just slightly. Just slightly. If this were an anime, the air around him would turn dark as he thinks to himself: What the hell am I going to tell Majima?

Kaz turns to look at Majima. Majima took the day off for this. It's bad enough he clearly wants to go home, now he really has no reason to stay. But he can't very well be mad at Mafuyu, she's a good kid whose parents definitely don't pay enough attention to and her friendship is also very valuable to him.

Kiryu is just so sorry. They can salvage it somehow, maybe? He has an idea. ]

Mafuyu, do you have any homework? Maybe we can help you? If Majima doesn't mind sticking around, anyway.

[ look its not so much that majima wants to go home as he wouldnt let mafuyu go home in the dark alone, for all that recolle is pretty crime-free these days.

he seriously doubts they can get her to do her homework, considering she didn't even remember the time they hung out at pizza port ]

Uh, yeah, I can help.

[ Mafuyu opens her mouth, about to say no, because she doesn't want to do homework here, but Kaz had been helping her with it that morning and it's much better doing it together than by herself. Especially since it's coming to the end of the school year, and she needs ever extra point she can get. ]

Let's see if I remembered to bring any of it with me...

[ Because she doesn't really have a folder or anything to put it in. Turning her backpack upside down, loose papers fall out, crumpled where they'd been jostled around on her back. There's some homework! That was due this morning. It's the homework she consulted Kaz on, the first answer filled out, and answered incorrectly. ]

Oh! Here's one! I think I can still get partial credit for it!

[ Kiryu breathes the smallest sigh of relief. He's actually been meaning to help Mafuyu with her homework, she's just hard to convince half the time. ]

Do you want me to get you some folders for all of these, Mafuyu...?

[ What are your parents even giving you, girl. Kiryu steps over to try and help her organize those papers. Sure enough, the one she found says it's past due... but it is something to do together. That means it can still be a date thing, right? ]
